ACURAJERRY SEINFELD TAKES ON CAR ADVERTISING

KILT completed an eight spot campaign for Acura and the web based TV show, Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. The campaign of spots were shot against process with a small foreground set element. KILT then designed and created the backgrounds for each of the spots.


The art direction of the spots were an homage to the early 1960’s car ad. The obvious artifice of the ads was part of the charm. The integration of the backgrounds was more about the humor of the scene rather than the finding the true integration of reality.

COORS LIGHT EXLPORES WITH KILT STUDIOS

KILT Finishes the Latest Round of Adverts for Calvary and Coors Light

CULVER CITY, CA - COORS LIGHT tapped KILT Studios for its 3rd venture in the Explorer Campaign. The campaign finds a couple of intrepid explorers deep within the cold. In this iteration, our Coors Light Explorers find themselves swimming deep the waters of the Arctic and flying through the Swiss Alps on wingsuits. The adverts were directed by Peter Berg of Pony Show Entertainment. The spots are currently running nationally.


The two spots, Scuba and Wingsuit, find the explorers in a very remote arenas to then find an exit point to the portal of persons in need of Coors Light. “In prior campaigns the explorers simply were there. Reason unknown. In the latest round, we find the Coors Light drinker in need - no more Coors Light - and our explorers dive into action - literally.


The issue with creating a very remote, distant landscape, is that it is hard to get to for a film crew. “The landscapes were very tough navigate given the story, so a good amount of VFX was …

CULVER CITY, CA - Executive Producer Matthew McManus expecting an approval on work KILT Studios had finished over the last three months opened his email to find the following, ‘Awaiting White House Approval. We should know soon.’ “That was a first. I saved that email,” said Matthew. The FDA was launching its first anti-smoking campaign to teens and it wanted to be sure the message was not in conflict with any other communications of the White House. The team at Kilt Studios knows that it is essential to bring a blend of elite artistry, technical prowess and a strategic eye to achieve powerful visual effects storytelling. They also know they are competing with others around the world that seek to commoditize the visual effects role. That is precisely why Kilt Studios arrived on the scene more than five years ago. The brainchild of Andrew MacDonald (or Andy Mac, as he is known) and Matthew McManus, Kilt Studios has thrived by staying true to the idea that magic happens when creativity and technical acumen combine. Taking it a step further, MacDonald and his team are hands-on well before the post-production phase even begins to ensure that work is done with the utmost efficiency.


A six-foot-tall Englishman with dreadlocks and a sharp wit, MacDonald is a world-renowned visual effects (VFX) supervisor and creative director. He has built his reputation on a commitment to artistic excellence and a collaborative approach in the production process. As co-founder of Kilt Studios alongside McManus, MacDonald works closely with top industry talent – including admired directors and producers such as Jerry Seinfeld, Barry Sonnenfeld and Peter Berg – to create effects for marquee brands including Acura, Capital One and MillerCoors.


Prior to Kilt Studios, he served as creative director at METHOD/RIOT and at CreoCollective. MacDonald’s background also includes a key role with Digital Domain as a senior visual effects supervisor, in which he was instrumental in the creation of classic spots for Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Isuzu, MCI and several others. His work has been recognized with countless industry honors.


MacDonald began his career as a post-production artist, working through such London post-production companies as Rushes, The Mill and Moving Picture Company. He went on to found several companies of his own, spanning a diverse range of creative and technical services. One of them, Hughes MacDonald, is distinguished for being the first independent visual effects firm in London.


MacDonald is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Association (BAFTA). Notably, Queen Elizabeth II recently invited him for a BAFTA reception at Windsor Palace. Born in England, MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Coventry Polytechnic.

While the visual effects industry is being economically squeezed and some agencies are attempting to commoditize the craft, Kilt Studios has thrived by staying true to the idea that magic happens when creativity and technical acumen combine. More than five years ago, Matthew McManus co-founded this independent visual effects company on the premise that craft and technology are equally important drivers to quality work. And when paired with McManus’ trusted expert guidance, powerful visual storytelling is brought to life in the most efficient way possible. In fact, the company has come to be known among advertising masterminds and filmmakers as a true strategic sounding board, starting in pre-production – almost unheard of for a “post-production” solution.


McManus is an 18-year veteran of the commercial production and post-production community. He and Andy MacDonald (Andy “Mac”) co-founded Kilt Studios in 2009 as a strategic, integrated visual effects solution for production companies, advertising agencies, studios and advertisers. As CEO, McManus oversees the day-to-day management of the company but will never remove himself from his first love -- the creative process. To date, McManus has produced more than 1,000 projects with clients including Pepsi, Nissan, Toyota, Nike, Coca-Cola, Boeing, MillerCoors and Budweiser, to name a few. McManus and MacDonald know what it takes to advise and inspire elite directors and producers – in many cases household-name stars themselves – with collaborative results that are on time, on budget and artistically on point.


Prior to founding Kilt Studios, McManus held executive producer roles with both Riot and Radium. Earlier in his career, he served as head of production for commercial production houses Fahrenheit Films, M-80 and Bedford Falls.


Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, McManus began his career at Dream Quest, which was uniquely situated as a production and post-production company at the dawn of the digital VFX era. While there, he coordinated, produced and finished a wide range of projects. McManus is a graduate from the University of Delaware.
